What to book, where, and what it really costs

This page is for anyone on the island with a free day and a bit of budget, whether you live here and have visitors coming or you are over for a week and want one good boat trip, a first dive or a round of golf. We checked every operator below on 14 September 2026 against its own website or booking engine, and where a site was dead or silent on prices we say so rather than guess. You get the harbour each boat leaves from, the times it sails, the adult and child price, and the phone number that actually answers. We have also written up the things the brochures leave out: the state of the Blue Lagoon road, the licence rules for jet skis, what you need to dive the Zenobia and when golf goes into high season.

When to go: seasons at a glance

Cyprus has a dry summer from mid May to mid October, July and August afternoons of 30 C and above on the plain, and mild wet winters. That shapes what runs when.

ActivitySeasonWhat to know
Boat tripsRoughly April to October, some to NovemberPaphos Sea Cruises prints March to November; Nemo Submarine April to end October; Alkion late March to 31 October. Sunset sailings mostly July to September. Most Latchi boats do not print dates, so phone from October on.
DivingAll year, busiest June to SeptemberSunfish Divers opens 1 April to 31 October; Viking Divers takes a winter break. Green Bay is one of the busiest sites in the world in August.
Jet ski, parasail, SUPApril to end OctoberMackenzie Beach Water Sports prints April to October; beach kiosks generally run 09:30 to 18:00 or 19:00 in season.
Kitesurf and windsurfAll year, best wind May to AugustLarnaca windsurf schools quote 18 to 25 knots after lunch May to August, north easterlies in March and April. Sea 17 to 18 C January to April, about 28 C July to September. KiteMed runs seven days April to October.
Golf high season16 February to 31 May and 16 September to 30 NovemberIdentical at Minthis, Secret Valley and Limassol Greens; Aphrodite Hills and Elea booking engines follow the same pattern.
Golf low season1 June to 15 September and 1 December to 15 FebruaryCheapest rounds; Minthis at 550 m is the cooler summer course; early and twilight slots beat the heat.

Blue Lagoon: go by boat, not by road

The Blue Lagoon in Akamas is the single most asked about trip on the island, and the honest answer in 2026 is to take a boat from Latchi.

  • The road: the only land approach is the unpaved forest track from the Baths of Aphrodite towards Fontana Amorosa inside the Akamas National Forest Park. In April 2026 the Audit Office described it as potholed, stony, with steep drops and unsafe for many vehicles, and recommended gate controlled access. Environmental groups say it is meant for authorised services, shuttles and permit holders. The Forestry Department put 3 million EUR of car parks and kiosks out to tender in September 2026, so the rules are still changing.
  • Hire cars: Paphos hire firms bar hire cars, quads and buggies from the Akamas tracks in their contracts, naming the Blue Lagoon, Fontana Amorosa, Lara and Avakas. If you go in a hire car you are uninsured on that track.
  • The boat: five Latchi operators run 2.5 to 3 hour cruises at 25 EUR adult and 15 EUR child, typically 10:30, 14:00 and a 17:00 sunset run, with swim stops. Paphos boats do a full day for 65 to 79 EUR, and some sell the Latchi cruise with a free hotel transfer.
  • Avakas Gorge nearby has been closed by the Forestry Department since 6 December 2025 for rockfall and slippery rock and was still closed until further notice when we checked. Do not plan a walk there.

Diving: the Zenobia and the other sites

Cyprus is warm water diving with easy shore entries and one world class wreck.

  • Zenobia, Larnaca: a Swedish built RO-RO ferry launched in 1979 that sank on her maiden voyage on 7 June 1980 about 1.5 km off Larnaca with 108 lorries aboard and no casualties. She is 172 m long and lies on her port side, top at 16 to 18 m, seabed at 42 m. Operators want Advanced Open Water, and most insist on a logged dive within the last six months or a check dive first (typically 35 to 50 EUR). From Larnaca dive centres it is minutes by boat; from Paphos or Latchi it is a day trip with transfer.
  • Limassol wrecks: the Lady Thetis (built 1953) and the Costandis (a 1989 Soviet trawler), both sunk in February 2014 as artificial reefs at 19 m and about 23 m, Advanced level.
  • Nemesis III and Liberty, Protaras: in the Protaras marine protected area, 26 m, Advanced level. Elpida, Voroklini: a 63 m cargo ship sunk in 2019 at 30 m off Larnaca, not Protaras as some sites say.
  • Green Bay, Protaras: walk in from the shore, 1 to 11 m, replica Greek statues at 10 m, no current, the standard try dive site.
  • Amphorae Caves, Paphos: boat access, 14 m, Open Water level, with amphorae set in a cave ceiling. Jubilee Shoals, Pissouri: the island's largest natural reef, about 2 km long, boat only, walls to 65 m, Advanced.
  • MUSAN, Ayia Napa: the underwater sculpture museum opened in 2021, about 200 m off Pernera beach at 8 to 10 m, more than 93 pieces by Jason deCaires Taylor. There is no entry fee and you can snorkel it from the public beach; scuba needs Open Water. No touching and no motorised craft in the zone.
  • Quality mark: the Visit Cyprus list of ISO 24803 certified centres includes Cydive, Dive-In Larnaca, Latchi Watersports Centre, Blue Thunder Diving Limassol and Cyprus Diving Centre Pernera.

Jet ski rules and boat safety

Two serious jet ski crashes in summer 2026 put the rental rules in the news. This is what applies.

  • No licence needed to rent, with conditions: an adult of 18 or over can rent and drive a jet ski without an operator's licence if they show ID, are entered in the operator's rental log, get a full safety briefing and co-sign a declaration with the company, which must supervise the ride. Since a 2020 amendment this covers permanent residents as well as tourists. Under 18s ride only as passengers. Operators such as Latchi Watersports and SeaWolf also require a full car driving licence.
  • Distances: jet skis stay at least 100 m seaward of the swimming buoys, towed inflatables at least 200 m from shore, parasails at least 300 m. Come back to the beach only through the marked lanes.
  • Fines: the current out of court fine for unlicensed operation is 85.43 EUR. The Recreational Navigation Law of 2026, passed early this year but not yet in force when we checked, raises that to 1,500 EUR, brings in a learner licence at 17 and a full licence at 18 through the Cyprus Sailing Federation, and caps rental jet skis for unlicensed adults at 135 kW and 45 knots on set routes.
  • Passenger boats: small fast vessels used for paying passengers are registered Category B and carry the letter B after the registration number on the stern. Since 2 September 2026 the state can also bar vessels from sailing in dangerous weather on the strength of Met Office marine bulletins, so a cancelled sunset cruise on a windy day is the law, not the operator being awkward.
  • Life jackets: the operators on this page that print terms (Latchi Watersports, Ocean Queen) include adult and child life jackets. Ask before you pay if it is not stated.

Golf: the six courses and how handicaps work

Cyprus has six civilian 18 hole courses open to visitors: Aphrodite Hills, Secret Valley, Minthis and Elea around Paphos, and Limassol Greens and Vikla around Limassol. There is no public course in Larnaca or Nicosia: the International Golf Club Nicosia inside the UN protected area takes non members by invitation or prior arrangement only, and the Dhekelia and Ayios Nikolaos courses sit inside the British bases.

  • Handicaps: Aphrodite Hills and Elea cap at 28 for men and 36 for ladies, Minthis at 36 with a certificate (higher handicaps after 11:30 subject to a pace check), Limassol Greens at 36 men and 45 ladies. Elea does not allow complete beginners and has a minimum age of 16.
  • Buggies: compulsory at Aphrodite Hills (driver 18+) and provided for all players at Limassol Greens. Optional at Secret Valley (50 EUR), Minthis (43 EUR) and Vikla (30 EUR). Elea is walkable.
  • Dress: collared shirts, tailored shorts or trousers and no denim everywhere; Minthis allows trainers, Elea wants golf shoes without metal spikes.
  • Getting a Cyprus handicap: the Cyprus Golf Federation issues no individual memberships. You get a CGF licence and a World Handicap System index by joining a member club or society; the licence is 50 EUR per adult per year. The cheapest route for residents without a home club is a society such as the Paphos Golfers Association or the Limassol Golf Club. The federation's website was suspended when we checked, so confirm the current procedure with them on +357 22 449874.
  • Multi course passes: none exists through the federation or Visit Cyprus. Aphrodite Hills sells stay and play packages that bundle rounds at Secret Valley, Elea, Minthis and Limassol Greens.

On land: quads, trails and evenings

The land side of the island: what you need to hire a quad, how the guided safaris work, the official trail facts and where to go when the sun goes down. Everything below was checked on 14 September 2026 against the operators' own sites or the Deputy Ministry of Tourism trail pages.

Quads and buggies: the rules that matter

RuleWhat applies in 2026
LicenceA full car driving licence at every operator we checked; provisional licences are refused. Some want it held for 3 years. EU licences are accepted as they are; others for 30 days or with an international permit.
Minimum age18 at most firms (HamYam, Xtreme, Easy Riders), 21 and sometimes 23 for the big 1000cc buggies at the Paphos firms. Passengers ride from a young age but the operator decides.
HelmetsEvery operator supplies them and says they are compulsory for driver and passenger on a quad. Road registered buggies have seat belts; the EU road rules summary for Cyprus lists helmets as mandatory on motorcycles and mopeds, not on quadricycles. Wear one on a quad regardless.
DepositTypically 300 EUR refundable on a rental (Paphos Buggy Co), up to 1,000 EUR on a 1000cc buggy at Energy Quad; 20 to 25 percent of the hire to book online. Guided safaris usually take no deposit.
InsuranceThird party cover is standard and damage to the vehicle comes out of your deposit; the Paphos firms say full collision cover is not available on these vehicles. HamYam and Takos Bros in Protaras include theft cover.
AkamasHire contracts for cars, quads and buggies bar the Akamas tracks (Blue Lagoon, Fontana Amorosa, Lara, Avakas). The Polis and Coral Bay firms take you in on their own guided safaris instead; if you self drive, read the contract first.
What it costsQuads 55 to 100 EUR a day, 2 seat buggies 90 to 190 EUR, 4 seaters 150 to 280 EUR; cheapest in Ayia Napa in April, May and October, dearest in Paphos in July and August. Guided Akamas safaris 60 to 140 EUR per machine for 3 to 7 hours from Latchi, 75 to 220 EUR per quad or buggy from Coral Bay.

The trails: official facts

Lengths, times and start points as published by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the Department of Forests trails. Difficulty is their 1 to 3 scale. Avakas Gorge stays closed.

TrailLength and timeDifficultyStart

Adonis (circular), Akamas7.5 km, 3 to 4 hours3400 m before the Baths of Aphrodite; joins Aphrodite at Pyrgos tis Rigainas and Smigies at Kefalovrysia
Artemis (circular), Troodos7 km, 2.5 to 3 hours1300 m up the Chionistra road off the Troodos to Prodromos road, 1,835 m; loops Olympus at 1,850 m
Atalanti (circular), Troodos14 km, 4 to 5 hours2Troodos Square, 1,725 m
Kalidonia (linear), Troodos to Platres3 km, about 1.5 hours33 km from Troodos Square on the Platres road, or from Psilodentro above Pano Platres; the waterfall is on the way
Avakas GorgeClosedClosed by the Department of Forests since 6 December 2025, still closed when we checked
  • Heat: the Akamas trails have no shade worth the name and no water on the route (the Kefalovrysia fountain is not potable). Start at first light from June to September or walk Troodos instead, where the trails sit above 1,500 m. Lighting any fire in a state forest or within 2 km of one is illegal; report smoke to 1407 or 112.
  • Hunting days: the 2026 to 2027 season runs on Sundays and Wednesdays: 23 August to 16 September, 1 November to 27 December, and 3 January to 28 February 2027. Trails stay open, but wear bright colours and keep to the marked path on those days.
  • Jeep safaris: from Paphos, 55 to 80 EUR adult and 40 to 50 EUR child for a full day in a Land Rover to the Blue Lagoon, Lara and the Baths of Aphrodite, or 60 EUR to Kykkos and Olympus; lunch is normally extra at a taverna. Zsolt's takes a 10 EUR deposit; Land Rover Treasure wants 24 hours' notice to cancel.
  • Horses: a 1 hour hack is 55 to 58 EUR in Limassol and at Aphrodite Hills, 60 EUR for 1.5 hours at Mesogi; children's pony rides 30 EUR; Izy's Ranch caps riders at 85 kg. Aphrodite Hills' riding page carries a transition notice, so phone before you drive out.
  • Tandem skydive: 250 EUR from 11,000 ft at the British Forces parachute centre in Dhekelia, video 100 EUR. We found no licensed tandem paragliding operator with a working site in the Republic.
  • Evenings: karting 15 EUR for 10 minutes in Limassol (from age 8), 20 EUR in Ayia Napa (over 12 and 1.50 m, April to October); paintball from 27 EUR a head with a minimum of 8 players; escape rooms 13 to 29 EUR a head in Limassol; bowling in Nicosia until 01:00. K-Cineplex's site was unreachable when we checked, so Rio in Limassol is the only cinema we can confirm from its own site; Paphos Karting Centre prints no phone or prices.
  • Free walks: the tourist boards run free guided walks with association guides: Nicosia's walled city (book on Visit Nicosia), Larnaca Wednesdays 10:00, Limassol Mondays 10:00 from the old port and Wednesdays 10:00 in Germasogeia, Paphos old town Thursdays in October and November 2026, plus a Saturday coach day into the Akamas and Laona villages from Kato Paphos. Book a day ahead.

Dead, closed or could not confirm

These names still circulate in old guides and on booking sites. We could not confirm them as trading on 14 September 2026, so we have left them out.

  • Kingfisher Fishing Trips, Paphos (site down); Cyprus Cruise Company, Protaras (domain dead); Relax Cruises and the Limassol boat party sites (server errors or parked). No Limassol cruise operator had a working own site, so book Limassol sunset trips through a charter agency such as MEDYACHTS.
  • Coral Bay Watersports: the domain now serves gambling spam. Do not click any link claiming to be it.
  • Kiteboarding Cyprus and Kitehouse Cyprus at Akrotiri and Paramali (sites unreachable); Dive Point and Blue Bay Divers (no own site); the Larnaca and Nicosia sailing schools (sites dead).
  • Venus Rock golf: no second course ever opened; the only course at Ha Potami is Secret Valley.
  • Avakas Gorge: closed since December 2025, see above.

Questions people ask

How much is a Blue Lagoon boat trip and where does it leave from?

From Latchi harbour near Polis, 25 EUR for an adult and 15 EUR for a child for a 2.5 to 3 hour cruise with swim stops, at five different operators. Sailings are typically 10:30, 14:00 and a 17:00 sunset run. From Paphos harbour the full day versions cost 65 to 79 EUR and include a BBQ or open bar, and some sell the Latchi cruise with a free hotel transfer, or 35 EUR with Blue Diamond's Paphos shuttle. Most Latchi boats run roughly April to October; only Alkion prints its season, late March to 31 October.

Can I drive to the Blue Lagoon in a hire car?

No. The only land route is an unpaved forest track from the Baths of Aphrodite that the Audit Office described in April 2026 as potholed, stony and unsafe for many vehicles, and Paphos hire companies name Akamas, the Blue Lagoon, Fontana Amorosa, Lara and Avakas as prohibited areas in their contracts, so you would be uninsured. Access rules are still changing while the Forestry Department builds car parks and kiosks. Take the boat.

Do I need a licence to hire a jet ski in Cyprus?

Not at the moment, if you are 18 or over: you show ID, go in the operator's rental log, get a safety briefing and sign a declaration, and the company supervises the ride. Many operators also insist on a full car driving licence. Under 18s can only be passengers. Stay at least 100 m outside the swimming buoys and come back through the marked lanes. The Recreational Navigation Law of 2026 will bring in licences and a 1,500 EUR fine for unlicensed riding once its regulations are in force, so check the position again next season.

What do I need to dive the Zenobia?

Advanced Open Water or equivalent, and most centres want a logged dive in the last six months or a check dive first (35 to 50 EUR). The wreck lies on her side off Larnaca with the top at 16 to 18 m and the seabed at 42 m. Two dives from a Larnaca centre cost 120 to 160 EUR; from Paphos or Latchi it is a day trip at 150 to 205 EUR with transfers. Non divers can ride along and snorkel above her for 35 to 75 EUR, or take the Larnaca semi submarine.

Is the MUSAN underwater museum free?

Yes. There is no entry fee and no ticket. The sculptures sit about 200 m off Pernera beach in Ayia Napa at 8 to 10 m, so you can swim out from the public beach with a mask and snorkel. Diving it needs an Open Water certificate; dive centres charge 65 to 80 EUR for a guided MUSAN dive. Touching the sculptures and motorised craft in the zone are banned.

When is golf high season and what does a round cost?

High season is 16 February to 31 May and 16 September to 30 November; low season is 1 June to 15 September and 1 December to 15 February. Printed 18 hole rates in 2026 are Vikla 50 EUR all year, Secret Valley 80 or 120 EUR, Minthis 100 or 137 EUR and Limassol Greens 115 or 185 EUR with the cart included. Aphrodite Hills and Elea price by booking engine, from about 50 to 70 EUR for a low season twilight slot to 145 to 241 EUR for a high season morning. Buggies are compulsory at Aphrodite Hills and included at Limassol Greens; elsewhere they cost 30 to 50 EUR.

Are the boat trips suitable for young children?

Most are, and most are free for the smallest: under 2 on the Black Pearl, Yellow Submarine and Dolphin, under 3 at Paphos Sea Cruises, Nemo and Medusa, under 3 on the Ocean Queen. Child rates usually run to age 11 or 12. The semi submarines (Nemo in Ayia Napa, Zorky in Larnaca) and the glass bottom boats in Paphos and Latchi are the calmest choices for toddlers; the party and fireworks boats are not. Ask whether child life jackets are on board if the site does not say.

Is Avakas Gorge open?

No. The Department of Forests closed it on 6 December 2025 because of water flow, slippery rock and rockfall risk, restated in May 2026 that it stays closed until further notice, and had announced no reopening when we checked on 14 September 2026. Anyone stepping past the chains does so at their own risk.

Quick answers

Cyprus wedding questions, answered

Can foreigners get legally married in Cyprus?

Yes, and it is famously straightforward: Cyprus is the easiest legal wedding destination in Europe. Civil ceremonies take place at town halls such as Ayia Napa, Paphos, Peyia, Geroskipou and Polis Chrysochous, and many hotels and venues are licensed for civil ceremonies too.

How much does it cost to get married in Cyprus?

It varies hugely by venue and season. As a general guide, expect anywhere from a few hundred euros for a simple town hall ceremony to several thousand for a full venue wedding, and prices change year to year. Venues quote on enquiry, so ask us and we will get you the real, current numbers for free.

Where is the most popular place for a civil wedding in Cyprus?

Ayia Napa Town Hall is the most popular civil ceremony venue in Cyprus, with the sea right next door. It is quick, simple and legal, which is exactly why so many couples choose it.

Can you get married on the beach in Cyprus?

Absolutely: bare feet in the sand with the turquoise sea behind you is the simplest and most romantic option of all. Beach ceremonies run at resorts such as Anassa, Columbia Beach Resort and Coral Beach, and at dedicated beach venues like Atlantida Beach. Take the sunset slot if you can.

Can we have a church wedding or blessing in Cyprus?

Yes. Couples wanting tradition can have an Orthodox blessing in the mountains at Kykkos Monastery, with the civil ceremony done separately. There are also whitewashed chapels like the Agioi Anargyroi Chapel at Cape Greco, the classic Cyprus elopement photo spot, and Anassa has its own Byzantine-style chapel.

Can you get married on a boat in Cyprus?

Yes. You can say your vows on a private yacht or catamaran, on charters of two to six hours with buffet or sit-down dining and DJ options, running out of Paphos and Latchi. The open sea and a sunset no venue can match.

How many wedding venues are there in Cyprus?

Our directory lists 98 wedding venues across the island, from five-star icons and clifftop decks to wineries, village inns, beach gazebos and the town halls where the paperwork happens. Every venue quotes on enquiry and prices move season to season, so ask us and we will get you the real numbers and honest advice for free.
